La Ruota is the place to go to get that perfect slice of ’za

Who says a classic Neapolitan pizza slice has to be a margherita?

La Ruota in Coquitlam has one of the most extensive menus we’ve ever seen for a Neapolitan pizza shop, with everything from baked potatoes to artichokes to smoked salmon and so much more. We counted a whopping 35 possible pizzas that you can order on La Ruota’s signature crust, and that’s not even getting started on the near limitless possibilities presented by the create-your-own option.

What’s even better is that, unlike some Neapolitan pizza places, La Ruota allows for half-and-half pizzas, even if the sauces and the toppings are entirely different.

When we recently visited we had the Calabria (tomato sauce, fior di latte, grana padano, capicolla, fennel sausage, hot soppressata), and the Caprese salad (fior di latte, grape tomatoes, fresh basil, balsamic vinaigrette) and the two dishes combined for what truly felt like a little trip to Italy.

The Coquitlam spot—located at 1168 High St.—is one of three La Ruota locations, though the other two are actually just a stone’s throw away from one another on Kitsilano’s West 4th Avenue, and at Cambie and West 7th.

And while we definitely enjoyed the Calabria, we’re already looking forward to heading back there to try out some of the restaurant’s more creative combinations, including (but in no way limited to) the Pollo Whisky BBQ, the Dal Mare, the Patate Gorgonzola, and the Spinaci Con Alfredo.

Did we mention you can order beer and wine? Yeah. You can order beer and wine. We’ll see you there.
